HEY. I am in Montreal this weekend at an addictions medicine conference. My downtime has yielded a number of great finds on the livable wellness blogosphere. Enjoy!
Some of this advice is total bougie crap. I mean, all you need is a moisturizer on the plane and, quite honestly, dollar store vaseline would be fine. But moving your body, booking a massage (if you're fortunate to have benefits) and taking care of yourself when travelling is actually not the most elitist thing I've heard. Unless you consider the ability to travel a sign of privilege - which I absolutely do - and then that's another conversation.
But then they did this great thing and recommended the autobiography of Assata Shakur, a leader in the Black Panther momvement and accused of murder in in the 1970s, who lives in exile in Cuba. I hadn't heard about it and now it's on my list because this stuff matters.
This is such a great book from my favourite food blogger. It is actually like a cookbook + autobiography which is why I like it so much; Storytelling and creative, home-warming food. I got my copy on pre-order. The story about how she got into cooking and how she ended up in North Dakota/Minnesota is really..normal! If you order from this site (click the image to the right), then I get a little commission which helps support this blog.
Oh my goodness. Jerrelle Guy got into food blogging when trying to make things work with her new vegetarian partner. And the images and recipes she creates! They're so gorgeous and vivid. So much food photography these days is minimalist and whited-out, but hers is so vivid and living. Follow her on instagram at @chocolateforbasil
