It's October and I am cold and sick and on call. So let's talk about ways we humans endure: books and booze.
First, booze (Jojotastic): Craft and style blogger Joanna Hawley rounded up some great fall cocktail recipes and my favourites are the Spiced Apple Old Fashioned and the Mulled Wine Old Fashioned. Thankkkkkkksssssssgiving!
Now books: My super duper cousin-in-law Katie - who launched her own feminist children's brand last year - just emailed me about Jessica Bennett's Feminist Fight Club, "Oh man, this book is fantastic. You gotta get your hands on it and tell me what you think!" So that is on my wish list. And I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay which is part memoir, part cultural commentary, part manifesto. It's a collection of essays that drew me in deep and showed me a path through some of the weirdest parts of being a woman in a world where 'woman' is a construct so ineffaceable you sometimes can't tell where you begin and it ends.
The other book that is killing me right now is Art of Memoir by Mary Karr, essayist, poet and memoirist. I wish I had more time to read because then I would read everything she has ever written and everything she tells me to read in Art of Memoir.
